On March 14, 2013, Seoul Semiconductor Corporation (SSC) unveiled the new MJT4040 PKG with multi-junction technology to meet the growing demand for the global LED streetlight market. Seoul Semiconductor also announced that it has won a series of renovation projects using MJT 4040 PKG street lights in China.

MJT4040 PKG uses MJT multi-junction technology to improve LED efficiency, while Acrich2 technology enables LED street lights to be directly lit by AC without using an AC/DC converter. Compared to traditional LED street lights, the Acrich street light module's power factor can be increased to 0.97. Due to its excellent performance, Seoul Semiconductor's street lighting renovation projects in developing countries are increasing.

The streetlights using the MJT4040 PKG do not require a power supply. They weigh about 2 to 3 kilograms lighter than DC LED streetlights, so they can design lighter streetlights. The existing DC LED street lamp has a weight of 10~15 kg. It needs to resist strong wind after installation. It needs to be fixed by using a relatively heavy lamp post to ensure safety, and the lamp post price is about 5 times more expensive than the LED lamp head. Instead, the MJT 4040 PKG street light can continue to use existing light poles and other accessories, which can save this cost and greatly reduce the cost of retrofit. More importantly, according to the US Department of Energy report, 50% of street lamp failures are caused by converter failures. DC LED street light power supply uses electrolytic capacitors. If its ambient temperature rises above 70 ° C to 80 ° C, it will result in a service life of less than 10,000 hours. The MJT 4040 PKG eliminates the need for a power supply and can last up to 50,000 hours.

MJT: Multi-junction technology

MJT means multi-junction technology that can be driven by higher voltages than conventional DC LEDs. High-voltage LEDs on the market today have complex circuit designs, and many LED chips are physically connected. MJT uses a multi-cell integrated chip to bring a variety of voltage values and can be used in the Acrich2 module of AC power. Since it uses only one chip, its defect rate is significantly reduced compared to conventional LEDs using multiple chips. MJT's chip is optimized, so its Lm/mm2 is extra high. The MJT LED can achieve a light efficiency of 130lm/W at rated operating current. If the MJT LED is used as a module, then there will be 100Lm/W light effect. Compared with DC LED modules, it can be increased by about 10%.
