Philips LED plant grows light into the plant factory in Toyama, Japan

April 01, 2023
Japan's Toyama City and Philips Electronics Japan announced on December 25, 2013 that the "Niuyue Hot Spring Plant Cultivation Plant" (tentative name), which is scheduled to be completed in March 2014 in the Yamada area of Toyama City, uses Philips' plant growth. LED lighting product "Philips GreenPower LED Production Module". The plant is scheduled to start in April 2014 with the goal of producing approximately 200,000 white sage per year using a cultivated area of approximately 800 m2.

The plant factory project was launched in August 2012 as part of the “diversity business of agriculture and business workers working together on the theme of environment and health” in Toyama City. In the Yamada area where the aging and the population are becoming more and more severe, the project will build a hydroponic full-scale artificial light plant that uses the hot spring heat of Niuyue Hot Spring and renewable energy such as solar power, and it will be integrated from production. One industry), processing (second industry) to distribution sales (third industry) Baisu production and sales business, creating new local products. The future goal is to switch from plant factory cultivation to open-air cultivation, so that the cultivation area will be expanded from the Yamada area to the whole city and the whole county, creating a handful of white soy origins in Japan.

Philips' plant growth lights are equipped with far red LED chips. According to reports, the LED lighting with the wavelength of light most suitable for plant growth and containing far infrared rays can achieve a unit power consumption of more than twice that of Hf fluorescent lamps. By accelerating the growth rate, the harvest can be increased by up to 20% or the cultivation time can be shortened, and the power consumption can be reduced by up to 55% compared with the original fluorescent lamp.

Philips has a wealth of technical experience and has a strong performance all over the world. The company's plant growth lamps also have excellent dust and water resistance, and can ensure the PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density) required for cultivation of white sage. Therefore, Toyama City decided to adopt the product.
