OSRAM launches new spare lens PowerTopled LED light output is 80% higher

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced a new lens, PowerTopledLED (SFH4258S/4259S), which has an optical output that is 80% higher than the standard version of the infrared LED with the same surface area and current.

The light output of the new LED can be greatly improved because it is a special thin film chip made by nano-stack technology. The chip has two PN junctions arranged one above the other, which expands the range of illumination, which is especially beneficial for security applications and gesture recognition applications.

If the space is compact, requires a larger illumination range, or must provide evenly distributed light over a larger area, it is required to emit more light in the same surface area. In general, the use of a large number of small LEDs is more flexible than using a small number of large LEDs, and the price is also more dominant. In addition to the nano-stacked chip technology and the resulting high-light output, the new infrared PowerTopled is identical in all respects to the standard version, so it can directly replace the standard version. Because the package size remains the same, existing designs can be used. In addition, this LED uses a series circuit, so the voltage is increased by about twice.

The new infrared PowerTopled has an optical output of 80mW at 70mA operating current, which is about 80% higher than the standard model LED at the same operating current. With an emission wavelength of 850 nm, it perfectly balances the maximum spectral sensitivity and visually suppressed visibility of CCD and CMOS cameras. In addition, the LED can be used with two different types of lenses to achieve +/-15° (SFH4258S) and +/-25° (SFH4259S) beam angles.

The new LEDs are especially suitable for infrared lighting and are especially suitable for use in safety systems. In closed circuit television (CCTV) applications, the range of illumination can be greatly expanded without increasing the number of LEDs. Its main applications in the consumer space include games that use cameras, because high-light output can bring the most benefits.
