LED patent war continues, Cree will bring a California LED manufacturer to court

March 20, 2023

LED maker Cree issued a lawsuit against the patent for infringement within a week. This time, Cree accused California LED manufacturer MaxBrite of filing a patent and trademark lawsuit with the federal court.

According to Ke Rui, in April 2016, MaxBrite was warned about patents.

According to Cree, in a few weeks, its investigators purchased a $300 MaxBrite luminaire and a product that Cree believes infringes its patented design.

Cree's investigators also purchased two MaxBrite luminaires, which were advertised as “using Cree LED Light Sources”, but were identified as untrue propaganda by Cree.

According to the complaint, MaxBrite's deliberate sale of counterfeit, pirated goods and improper use of the Cree trademark is likely to confuse consumers, mislead and deceive consumers, and believe that the counterfeit products they purchase are genuine Cree products. And added, these fakes have been a bit confusing enough to deceive consumers.

Founded in 2006, MaxBrite sells a wide range of LED products and related parts. The website also lists Cree as a supplier of LED light sources for some of its products.

After Cree announced the lawsuit on November 18th, MaxBrite did not immediately respond to this.
